The primary goal of our Fellows program is to help foster diverse and marginalized students with significant barriers to obtain counseling licensure and thrive as practitioners.

Our initial pilot launch was a success and we are now opening the program up to all California undergraduate programs for our second 2021-2022 cycle! 

The application period for this cycle has now closed.

SEEKING:

BIPOC (Black, Indigenous & People of Color)
1st generation students
Immigrants/dreamers
LGBTQ+
Students with disabilities
Foster youth
Multilingual
Lived mental health experience
Returning students
Adult learners obtaining 1st degree

ELIGIBLE APPLICANTS MUST:

1) Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in California and be in their junior or senior year of their program (priority given to seniors);

2) Have a strong commitment to a career in mental health services and desire to become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor;

3) Be willing to commit to 1.5 hour monthly meetings and attend monthly professional development events over the entire academic year;

4) Meet at least once per month with assigned mentor.

FELLOWS WILL RECEIVE:

• 2-year Student level membership to CALPCC
• Complimentary registration at all CALPCC-sponsored events
• Membership in Regional Networking Groups
• Career mentorship and guidance from Board of Directors
• Mentorship from a mental health professional working in the field 
• Monthly meetings and access to curriculum designed to prepare fellows for graduate school in the field of counseling

Group interviews (via Zoom) October 4th-9th, 2021

BASIC ELIGIBILITY

Applicants do not need to be a U.S. citizens, permanent residents or noncitizen nationals.

Applicants must:

• Be a member of one or more of the following communities: BIPOC, LGBTQ+, foster youth background, and/or have a disability;
• Have a strong commitment to a career in mental health services and desire to attend a graduate program in the Counseling profession and one day become a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor;
• Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in California and be in their junior or senior year of their program (priority given to seniors);

Essay Topic:

Tell us what you envision when you think of a counselor. What motivates you to become a counselor? Are there stigmas or barriers to access associated with both getting and providing mental health services in your community? If so, tell us what you would do or what you would like see changed in the field of counseling to address the stigmas or barriers to access.
